ROAN AREA ACCESS PROJECT(RAAP)
Please fill out this form to help keep public hunting access in units 22 and 32. Recently EnCana has sold off its properties in this area. This land was originally public land under the control of the BLM, however it was sold to private interest in 1980. At the time of the initial sell there was a clause that forced the property to remain open for public recreation (hunting) for 25 years. In 2005 this clause expired. Since 2005 the Colorado Parks and Wildlife has been able to maintain access through a lease agreement with EnCana. When EnCana sold, they sold a smaller chunk of land to a private ranch. The private ranch has already fenced off and closed access to the property they own. The larger portion of this property was sold to Caerus Oil and Gas.
There is over 10,000 acres of the original hunting access that has remained intact with the new owners(Caerus).
At this stage we are hoping to gather signatures/stories and support to help motivate Caerus to keep this area open. Please take the time to fill out the form and provide comments and feedback as necessary.
The CPW is currently trying to negotiate an agreement to maintain access. Any information provided here may be used to support the negotiations in this area.
Also note that on March 29th, 2018 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm there will be a public gathering/informational meeting held in the auditorium at the following location:
Rifle High School
1350 Prefontaine Avenue
Rifle CO, 81650
Please come and support our cause. Our community and our hunting heritage depends on access.
